The Good Soldier (1915) "... is set just before World War I and chronicles the tragedies of the lives of two seemingly perfect couples. The novel is told using a series of flashbacks in non-chronological order, a literary technique pioneered by Ford. It also makes use of the device of the unreliable narrator, as the main character gradually reveals a version of events that is quite different from what the introduction leads you to believe. The novel was loosely based on two incidents of adultery and on Ford's messy personal life.” (Summary by Wikipedia)

what a mess

(2 stars)

A bit of a mishmash: constantly changing - not all particularly gifted - readers, very few of whom know how to pronounce any, even slightly, unusual words, including the names of the principal characters. One has spliced in any phrase containing the word ‘Nauheim’ - which is positively comical. It is an awful book but, even so, really does need re-recording.

The reader of section 6, 10, 13, 14 and 16 has used a poor microphone and the sound quality is terrible. It echoes and is muffled and is hard work to listen too. All the readers did a great job, just a pity about the one microphone. Oh well, it’s free.

Be forewarned, there are two different people reading this book. It changes hands at Section 1-6. I preferred the first reader.
