In this book Mathewson is telling the reader of the game as it is played in the Big Leagues.... It’s as good as his pitching and some exciting things have happened in the Big Leagues, stories that never found their way into the newspapers. Matty has told them. This is a true tale of Big Leaguers, their habits and their methods of playing the game, written by one of them. (Summary by John N. Wheeler -- from the Introduction) (5 hr 30 min)

dead ball era baseball

(2 stars)

I love baseball and to read old time baseball stories and players views of the game. But I found this tough to stick with. Well read just didn't care for author, or his views.

Dead Ball Era

(5 stars)

Not the most exciting book, but it is definitly a rare look into baseball's "dead ball era." It is also very well read.
