I did enjoy this book but there were a few things that I didn't like, namely ridiculous feminine sacrifice, the idea that blood will come out and a somewhat unsatisfactory ending. Also I couldn't understand why the heroine was in love with the hero. I think she loved the ideas she thought he stood for more than she loved him. He wasn't a bad guy but I thought he was a bit shallow.

Excellent!

This is a great story, with a cleverly woven plot complete with unexpected twist. Simon's reading was excellent, as always, really capturing the emotions of the complex characters. Thank you so much.

loved it and Simon Evers is one of the best narrators LibriVox h

Beautiful story

(4 stars)

It may be a romance, but it's one that men and women alike can enjoy. Simon is a wonderful reader. Unfortunately, I often hear tiny little skips and pops in the recording that detract from an otherwise good technical quality. They aren't large enough to obscure the meaning of the sentence, but they can be distracting.

Fun Story!

This was my first Basil King book and it was so good that I’ve already started another. Mr. Evers is flawless as always and he is the narrator I look for most often. Good story and great narrator! Thanks to LibriVox and especially to Simon Evers.

Wild Olive

A well-constructed romantic novel of surprizing emotional depth. As usual, a professional quality recording by Simon Evers, who knows how to subordinate himself to the story. And i'm not just saying that because he's a Brit. Thanks, Simon. More please! TheBookworm, Manchester, UK.

Intricate and intelligent with interesting characters and locales. Paced myself at the end so it wouldn’t be over too soon.

Good story

It was well read, but I had some technical difficulties listening to it as it skipped and halted.
