Critiques
brilliant but flawed by the synopsis

Johnny Mck
A brilliant book full of pathos and poetry with a lovely reading by Jan Moorhouse. But why on earth include such a comprehensive spoiler of the ending in the synopsis at the top of the audiobook?!
Great reading of this classic work!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Jan Moorehouse's reading of The House of Mirth. Her fluid and competent reading kept me engaged in the novel and Wharton's prose from start to finish. The audio quality was great as well. I don't think I would have made it through this classic without Jan's recording, but I'm so glad I experienced this great work.

Very well thought out and written book. Spoiler Alert, I prefer happy endings but I am reconciled enough with the whole book to not feel cheated by an ending that is not the usual "Happy Ever After" of most romance novels.
an American masterpiece

Masterfully read by Jan Moorehouse, Wharton is easily on par with the greats like Hugo, Tolstoy, James, and Balzac.
