O Pioneers! tells the story of the Bergsons, a family of Swedish immigrants in the farm country near Hanover, Nebraska, (a fictional town near Glenvil) around the turn of the 20th century. The main character, Alexandra Bergson, inherits the family farmland when her father dies, and she devotes her life to making the farm a viable enterprise at a time when other immigrant families are giving up and leaving the prairie. The novel also concerns two romantic relationships - one between Alexandra and family friend Carl Lindstrom, and another between Alexandra's brother Emil and the married Marie Shabata. Beautiful story

(5 stars)

This was a soulful story of pioneers’ settling into a new country. It beautifully tells of their strengths, frailties, and sensitivities . So glad it found it!!

Good story but abrupt ending

(4 stars)

I loved the story and how well written it was but I felt as though the ending was rather abrupt and almost and after thought. It took me a while to get used to the reader's cadence and kind of a sing song reading.

Weird story… and not in a good way.

(0.5 stars)

Just not my favorite story. It didn’t have a whole lot of happy endings and got super weird before it was all said and done.

Lovely reading of an American classic

(5 stars)

A lovely reading of this classic story of life on the Nebraska frontier. Highly recommended. The Bookworm (Manchester, UK)

excellent!!!

(5 stars)

This reading brought me back to the days I lived in the Midwest. The reader had just the right accent. An excellent interpretation

Well read.

(5 stars)

Reader provided entertaining time with a pretty good story. Read with slight Scandinavian lilt; appropriate for Swedish main character.

homesteaders going through some rough times and then finally, having me the right decisions, succeeding, but with tragedy all around

O Pioneers

(4 stars)

A vast saga of the lives and fortunes of one family in the American western plains.
