THE CANYON IS CALLING ME
Avid Listener
A fine love story by Grey--love of the land first, then love between Carley and Glen. Never has Grey described scenes more beautifully. If I had read this as a young man, I would have gone to Flagstaff. It is always pleasureable to listen to Kilmer read about the west. Thanks, Richard.
Excellent narrator

A story of ENDLESS soliloquies AND musings...predictable ending... not much action...a”warring” of values between lovers...good and many descriptions of the terrain
great narration, story ok

This is not my favorite Zane Grey story but the narration is excellent
Not so good
Ancient Aunt
I love Zane Greyâs novels, but this one was not very good. Written after WWI, Grey got up on a high soapbox and railed on about how noble soldiers are and how shallow women are to not revere them. I listened to the entire book but it was exceedingly tedious. As always, however, his descriptions of the west (Flagstaff, Arizona in this case) are beautifully rendered.

This book started out so great. Emotions, relationships, breathtaking landscape. Then originally virtuous values are carried to an extreme where they become toxic. Not enough, the holier-than-thou crowd only sees the world in black and white, and needs to preach to others and police them with the subtlety of a baseball bat.

This is my all-time favorite Zane Grey novel. I've probably been through it a half-dozen times! Wonderful look at history and very unique point of view from our modern view of life. The pictures painted in words of the Arizona desert and wilderness are so evocative! This is a great read.
