David Raine is travelling, trying to escape his own memories. On the train he meets Father Rolland, who invites him North, to a world of "mystery and savage glory", to help him find himself again. On the same train, he meets a mysterious woman searching for a man named Michael O'Doone. When she's gone, he finds a thin package on her seat. Amazing and beautiful story!

Michael O'Doone is a wounded man, not of the physical but of the emotional and spiritual type. While riding a train, he encounters a religious man who invites Michael to travel with him. On the same trip, he encouters a mysterious woman who leaves a picture behind. Michael accepts the invitation, but takes the picture along with him, feeling strangely drawn by that picture. He heals, and finds himself while in the company of the religious man. But at the same time, he feels drawn to find the poor girl of the picture. The story of his healing and his search is very well-written, and draws you in. I loved it! The readers were good, no chapters that bugged me or detracted from the story line, so well done. :-)

Another cradle-snatching hero that would put Russel Brand to shame. Enjoyable rendering of Northern life rather undermined by the idiocy of the hero at the climax of the action. Most worring is the fact that his faithful hound seems to be abandonded without a thought...maybe I missed something? readers do a good job.

The title is misleading. The story is mostly about David and his experiences. Marge is a secondary character. The story is not so much an adventure story, but one of finding yourself after a great emotioal loss. The narration at the beginning and end was very good.

Another must read of Author Curwood’s. Slow to get going but when did I had to hang on. I could understand all the readers so ended up most satisfied. Mr. Pelton as the anchor reader was the best choice. Thank you LibriVox for another good book.
