Great book for hi-adventure lovers

G. A. Henty is one of my favorite authors and this is one of his best books. The reader is very easy to understand and has a pleasant voice.

Fantastic Reading!

A great job with voices, as well as reading speed.

A thrilling adventure, wonderfully read.

It seems like everytime I finish one Henty's stories I feel they couldn't get any better. This one is no exception. The story starts off a little slow at first but is necessary to lay the foundation for the plot, it then picks up speed takes you from The ivy leagues of England through the prairies of North America ending in the rough and tumble gold fields of California. I really like the authors attention to detail although not tedious. especially since I grew up in the Gold country of California were part of the story took place. Rachel is an excellent reader I've enjoyed anything she's read, thank you young lady for your hard work and talent.

England to California

(4 Sterne)

Starts slow but builds in depth to a broad tale. Interesting perspectives of British life and trail across US. Daily realities of living in gold rush era. Young Rachel was amazingly good reading.

another good Henty work

Somewhat more complex in it’s cast of characters then many of Henty’s works. Enjoyable and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the very fiery character of Alice. Henty’s portrayal of female characters as more than societal stereotypes is surprising for his era and quite refreshing. The reader of this book, Rachel, also did a great job in putting realistic attitudes and tones of voice into each character but particularly into this character of Alice. Well done

Captain Bayley's Heir

One of my favorite Hentys, and one of my favorite readers! I loved the unusual 'school' sort of beginning, and how it all comes together in the end. The wilderness travel to California parts can get rather long if you don't like that sort of thing, but definitely still worth it. I really enjoyed the underlying plot

A REAL FEEL GOOD STORY

Henty always furnishes a happy ending, and this one was also satisfying. Rachel did well with interpretive voices. Once she learns to slow down a bit, she will be a favorite.
