Sir Edward Leithen and his friends Lord Lamancha, Palliser-Yeates, and Archie Roylance are bored of life. After Leithen's doctor recommends a hearty adventure, they set out to Scotland for a season of shooting--on other people's grounds. Determined that being a gentleman poacher who gives notice to the one being poached from will be the adventure they need, Leithen and company embark on an adventure that has a bit more at stake than they realized. - Summary by AdeledePignerolles (7 hr 56 min)

Critiques
a great book, but some of the reading is not so good

MatfordDavid
this is often thought of as Buchan's second best yarn, and a reading on Librivox was overdue. so five stars for the book, four for the reading. one reader mispronounced "Buchan", there was inconsistent pronunciation of Palliser, and of some French words that are used in England, and one reader read paragraph breaks as if they were as short as full stops. And please, the wedding present was a QUAICH, not a quiche.

A LibriVox Listener
Old fashioned but excellent and original tale. Just a little hard to follow due to some readers trying (and failing “Brigadoon” style) to read in a Scottish accent!
cracking yarn

A bit old fashioned but well structured tale of its era.

Excellent story that must be due for a miniseries.
